That could be because a lot of people think of some negative things when they hear the world Gothic. However, this is actually just a style that can be used. In fact, many buildings and outfits are made with these kinds of themes in mind. If you look at the same word upside down, then it says death. Now, at first look, you may think that this does not make a good wedding ring, but there is deep meaning behind it. Gothic Architecture and the Characteristics of Its Wonderful Style

Talking about architecture always leads me to discuss Gothic style. I love this certain style a lot because of its pointed arches and ribbed vault. For me, Gothic architecture is very amazing with all of the details of the construction. If you love to travel around the world, I suggest you to visit some traces of this architecture style. You can found them mostly in France, but you can also find them in Italy and England.

This architecture style flourished during the high and medieval period in France that was succeeded by Renaissance architecture. Around 12th century, people in that era developed the previous style, Romanesque, to be the new style. Gothic style then reached its popularity and lasted until the 16th century.

Initially, Gothic style was known as the French Style, or Opus Francigenum. The term Gothic then appeared during the latter part of the Renaissance era as a stylistic offense. Mostly, this wonderful architecture style is applied to build cathedrals, parish churches, or abbeys. However, you can also find the traces in many castles, palaces, town halls, or universities. The characteristics of this architecture style are including the pointed arch, the flying buttress, and the ribbed vault.

Pointed arch is my favorite characteristic of Gothic architecture. Actually, this kind of arch was also used in Romanesque style but they did not pay attention to the shape. Furthermore, when the new style was developed, people noticed that this particular arch would give amazing stability as well as strength for the building. My favorite buildings with pointed arch are Chartres Cathedral in France and Milan Cathedral in Italy.

Another characteristic is the ribbed vault. This is a result of the intersection of two or thee barrel vaults. The previous style used in Romanesque was the groin vault. Compared with groin vault, the use of ribbed vault shows the skill of the masons of the new ideas. Ribbed vault allows us to admire the wonderful construction, although in Renaissance era this technique wad considered as a new for architecture. You can visit Durham Cathedral in England and take a look at the roofs of the choir side aisles. That is my favorite ribbed vault among other building in Gothic.

The next characteristic is the flying buttress, or also known as arc-boutant. This certain type of buttress could be easily found on any religious building such as cathedral. The real function of this buttress is to send out the horizontal force of a vaulted ceiling through the wall to a counterweight outside the building. Therefore, it seems like flying through the air.

However, this type of buttress was not created in Gothic Architecture. Flying buttress was employed by Byzantines in early Romanesque, but it was hidden under the roof or covered by other construction. In Gothic style, it creates a web of stonework in the outside of clerestory walls and gives a great heavenly impression. You can see how wonderful the appearance of this buttress construction in some cathedrals, such as Chartress, Le Mans, Beauvais, and Reims.

With all of the wonderful appearance and impression given by Gothic architecture, this architecture style becomes my favorite product of Renaissance era. You should visit some Gothic style buildings someday, and feel the grandeur of Renaissance era offered by them.

A Brief History of Gothic Art

This was the age of chivalry. The Gothic movement lasted added than 200 years, alpha in Italy and overextension throughout Europe. It began with the architectural triumphs of the 12th aeon (the acme of the Middle Ages) back Europe was gluttonous to move above the Aphotic Ages and into an era of radiance, confidence, and prosperity. It was accompanied by a deepening of Christianity, back arresting new cathedrals were actuality complete throughout Northern France (Amiens, Chartres, and Reims).

Unlike the Romaneque and Byzantine art that preceded it, the Gothic aeon was characterized by an access in a naturalistic style. This affection (naturalism), which aboriginal appeared in works by Italian artists during the 13th century, came to be the ascendant painting appearance throughout the Continent and lasted until the end of the 15th century.

At the end of the Gothic period, there were some artists in the Arctic who maintained this Gothic style, captivation to its tradition, alike while Italy gave bearing to a new aesthetic and cultural age - the Renaissance. Thus, the end of the Gothic aeon has cogent overlap in time with both the Italian and Northern Renaissance eras of art.

Early Gothic Aeon
In the aboriginal Gothic aeon of art, art itself was created to enhance and explain religion. With boundless illiteracy, painting and carve became "teaching tools" to accompany the belief of Christianity to the masses. Added works of art (like icons) were created to aid in ambition and prayer.

Early Gothic masters of art corrective images that were characterized by abundant airy abstention and intensity. This was, in part, a assiduity of the Byzantine style, but there was abundant that was new as well--perspective, arresting naturalistic figures, and beautiful, affected lines.

Artists of the Aboriginal Gothic aeon included Cimabue (1240-1302), Duccio (1287-1318), Martini (1285-1344), and the two Lorenzetti brothers, Pietro and Ambogio. Perhaps the greatest artisan of this aboriginal Gothic aeon was Giotto (1267-1337). His advocate anatomy and adjustment of depicting "architectural" space, so that his abstracts were on the aforementioned calibration as barrio in the surrounding landscape, marks a abundant bound advanced in art and the adventure of painting generally.

International Gothic Appearance
By the end of the 14th century, the admixture of Italian and Northern European art had led to an International Gothic Style. During this time, arch artists, decidedly those from Italy and France, catholic abundantly about Europe, overextension aesthetic account throughout France, Italy, England, Germany, Austria, and Bohemia.

The International Gothic Appearance had a decidedly courtly, blue-blooded flavor, alloyed with a Flemish affair for naturalistic detail. Unlike the assorted characteristics that fabricated up Aboriginal Gothic Art, this new appearance had a added distinctive, unified look. There was additionally addition able access during this time period, and some art reflects in abominable ways, this cultural accountability and Medieval disaster, the Black Death. This adverse affliction (now anticipation to accept been bubonic and pneumonic plague) ransacked Europe during the time of the International Gothic Style, killing about one-third of the population.

Artists who are associated with this aeon accommodate the Limbourg brothers (Pol, Herman, and Jehanequin), who formed in the age-old art of book beam in France (although they were from the Netherlands), and Italian artists Gentile da Fabriano (1370-1427), Antonio Pisanello (1395-1455), and Sassetta (1392-1450).

Innovation in the Arctic
By the 15th century, an International Gothic appearance had emerged, developing forth two abstracted paths, both of which could be advised advocate to art. One was based in the south, in Florence, Italy, and adumbrated the Renaissance. The added took abode in the north, in the Low Countries, area art afflicted in a different, admitting appropriately arresting way. This art would aftereffect in the Northern Renaissance movement and was absolutely audible from its southern counterpart.

This new anatomy of painting that appeared in 15th aeon Netherlands was acclaimed by a abyss and aesthetic absoluteness that was new. The appearance alone the alluring breeding and adorning elements that preceded it in the International Gothic Style. Area before, there was a faculty that the admirers for Gothic art was accepting a glimpse of heaven through painting, in this new Northern Gothic Style, the Flemish painters brought the accountable amount bottomward to earth, capturing their capacity amidst accustomed calm interiors.

Robert Campin (1406-1444) was one of the ancient Northern innovators. Added important artists of the aeon included Jan van Eyck (1385-1464), Rogier van der Weyden (1399-1464), Hugo van der Goes (1436-1482), and Dieric Bours (1415-1475).

Late Gothic Aeon
Gerard David, Hieronymus Bosch, and Matthias Grunewald were all aboriginal 16th aeon artists and aeon of added Northern artists (Albrecht Durer, Lucas Cranach, and Hans Holbein). However, the paintings of David, Bosch, and Grunewald maintained a articulation to the Gothic style, while Durer, Cranach, and Holbein had confused on to the Renaissance address of painting. Thus, the two strands of art coexisted and intermingled in Northern Europe in the aboriginal bisected of the backward 16th century.

Of all the artisan mentioned, however, Hieronymus Bosch (1450-1516) stands apart. Diverging from Flemish tradition, his appearance was characterized by a arresting freedom, and his use of symbolism, which was unforgettable, charcoal unparalleled to this day amid artists. Both astonishing and alarming at the aforementioned time, Bosch's assignment expresses a able cynicism that reflected the civic anxieties of the day.

The final beginning of Backward Gothic Aeon painting came from the analogously aphotic eyes of Matthias Grunewald (1470-1528). No added artisan has so tragically and horrifyingly apparent the abhorrent accuracy about suffering. His afflicted accuracy of Christ on the cantankerous bankrupt out the Gothic aeon of art, a time of amusing and political upheaval, of Black Death and suffering. Just over the border lay a new age of accurate broad-mindedness and aesthetic development, the Renaissance, which (like Gothic art) would change the art apple forever.

Wedding Dresses: Choose The Perfect Gothic Wedding Dress

So you've chosen a Gothic theme to your wedding and now need to choose from a wide range of wedding dresses.

But this is quite a bold, daring choice, so let's look at attributes of this theme and the kind of dress that would be best for you.

Gothic is a pretty brave choice, but it's so unusual it will be remembered forever by all of your guests. But how do you get it right?

What is Gothic?

The Gothic culture is influenced heavily by music and the macabre. The term Gothic was originally coined in the 18th and 19th Centuries to describe a style of fiction which discussed the occult, death and other creepy subjects. Shelley's 'Frankenstein?' Yes, it's a Gothic title.

This later spawned a group of people who embraced the whole gloomy and dark way of life which included clothing, makeup, music and art.

Gothic Wedding

A Gothic wedding is likely to be a lot darker than a traditional white wedding. It won't be gloomy, but you may wish to choose some fun elements that showcase your 'darker sensibilities.'

Consider dark colors like blacks, grays and scarlets.

Your cake can be decorated with crimson, black and silver. Perhaps choose a crucifix or skull motif instead of the traditional tiered cake.

But the most eye-catching element of your day is sure to be the Gothic Wedding Dress.

Most brides will find that a totally black dress is rather too extreme, but you could buy a white dress and then have it customized with black applique, or black accents in the skirt. On the other hand a dark red dress could be really cool too.

Lace is a really important element, and can be included as features all over the dress. Black lace on your bodice, the veil and perhaps the skirt will really help you to look like a femme fatale.

Black rhinestones add a mystical sparkle to a dress which already has some black color, so consider them for the bodice.

You could get a black veil, which certainly adds a twist to the traditional veil. If you can't find a black veil you could either dye a white one or make one from a really lightweight fabric like organza.

A really fabulous addition would be black lace elbow-length gloves.

Don't forget that more classical styles of dress are probably going to fit in with the Gothic style better than more modern dresses, and so you'll want to consider A-line, Ball gown or Empire style dresses.

All of these have that classical, olde worlde style that will fit in really well with your theme. Short dresses and more modern styles like mermaid cut dresses are to be avoided, however.

Your bridesmaids should also fit with your theme, so make sure to choose fittingly dark colors for their dresses. How about crimson, black or charcoal for them?

Finally you can hold a really interesting bouquet. These days it's possible to get black roses, so these would be a really great fit. Otherwise go for a bouquet of dead flowers, to add a really creepy mood.

This is a really fun theme and your big day, so really go to town and Goth it up to the maximum! No one will have been before, so make sure it's memorable.

Where to buy wedding dresses? Best to try shopping online. You'll find that online stores have better choice than big chain stores, and best of all they're far cheaper!
